The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, or TRAI, has mandated DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) registration to regulate the Indian bulk SMS industry. According to the TRAI guidelines, you cannot send bulk SMS or any type of business-related messages in India without a DLT registration.

DLT Registration in India: A Comprehensive Guide

This is done to tackle the rising concerns related to SMS spam and fraudulent messages. Thus DLT registration creates a trustworthy and secure environment for SMS marketing by authenticating the sender's identity. This is helpful for businesses to build credibility with their audience, enhancing the overall user experience.

Once your registration on the DLT platform is completed, with your Sender ID and Template successfully approved based on your business need, you will need to MAP your DLT PE ID in the MSG2 platform and submit your approved template.

What is the meaning of DLT Registration in India?

DLT or Distributed Ledger Technology registration is the process of registering your business, message templates, sender IDs, and other required information on a DLT platform.

To register with a DLT platform you must provide the required information, such as business name, contact information, address, and the purpose of your SMS campaigns. Once registered, you will be given a unique identifier that you can use when sending SMS messages for your business.

Customers receiving these messages can also opt out of receiving SMS messages from certain businesses. To do this, they can text “STOP” to the SMS that they receive from the business.

What is the DLT Registration Process?

The complete DLT registration process comprises three steps in the following order:

  • Principal Entity Registration
  • SMS Header or Sender ID Registration
  • Template Registration
Step 1: Principal Entity Registration

A Principal Entity can be a legal entity, individual, or business that wants to send SMS in bulk.

A commercial business (company or individual) dealing with products and/or services needs to register as an Enterprise or Principal Entity. A Telemarketer who collects SMS or voice traffic from other businesses needs to register themselves as a Telemarketer.

Step 2: SMS Header or Sender ID Registration

A Header or Sender ID is a unique ID assigned to a business, an individual, or a legal entity for sending commercial communication. It represents the brand or name of the company of the message sender. It contains an alphanumeric string of a maximum of 11 characters and/or numbers.

Step 3: Template Registration

This is the most important step in the registration process, as here the operator will either approve or reject your SMS template.

What are the DLT registration sites?

You can register yourself in any of the operators below and get your header and template approved:

  • AIRTEL: https://dltconnect.airtel.in/
  • Vodafone/Idea VIL: https://www.vilpower.in/
  • BSNL: https://www.ucc-bsnl.co.in/

  • JIO: https://trueconnect.jio.com/#/
  • Tata: https://telemarketer.tatateleservices.com:8082/

What are the charges for DLT registration?

The entity/enterprise/telemarketer aggregator function costs 5000 INR + 900 INR GST. Whereas the telemarketer delivery function charges come up to 50,000 INR + 900 INR GST. These prices are subject to change. This pricing is solely dependent on the DLT platforms and MSG2 does not have any involvement in the process.
